Urban Veterinary Associates

Something is wrong today. Call us first.

Urgent care is for problems that cannot wait for a routine appointment but are not a middle of the night emergency. Call us first so we know you are coming and can prepare. If we are closed, or your pet needs more than we can give, we will tell you exactly where to go.

Call before you drive · we will tell you honestly if somewhere else is faster

Open now · Closes 6 PM

We are open. Call before you drive over.

One phone call lets us ready the room, the equipment, and the team before you pull in. If somewhere else would genuinely see your pet faster, we will say so.

Do not wait

Signs that need care right now

If you see any of these, this is not a wait and see situation. Call us during our hours, or go straight to a 24 hour emergency hospital if we are closed.

What happens next

What happens when you call

Four steps, so the phone call itself is one less unknown.

01

You call us

Tell us what you are seeing and roughly when it started. You do not need the right words for it, just what changed.

02

We triage on the phone

We decide with you whether this is come in now, come in today, or go straight to an emergency hospital instead.

03

We prepare before you arrive

Room, equipment, and team ready, so the clock starts when you leave the house rather than when you reach the desk.

04

You get the number before we treat

Even urgently, you hear what we recommend and what it costs first. Nobody gets a surprise invoice.

Be clear on this

We are not a 24 hour hospital

We would rather say that plainly than have you drive here at two in the morning. We are a general practice with set hours, closed Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and during open hours we will work urgent cases into the day.

Outside those hours, go to a dedicated 24 hour emergency hospital. Call us afterwards and we will pick your pet’s care back up, request the records, and follow through.

Urgent care questions owners actually ask

  • Should I call first or just come in?

Call first. A phone call lets us prepare the room, the equipment, and the team before you arrive, which genuinely saves time in an urgent case. It also lets us tell you if another facility is the faster option right now.
  • What counts as a true emergency?

Difficulty breathing, collapse, seizures, suspected poisoning, a bloated hard abdomen, straining to urinate without producing anything, uncontrolled bleeding, or major trauma. These need immediate care, not an appointment tomorrow.
  • Are you open 24 hours?

No. We are a general practice with set hours, and we are closed Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. During our open hours we will fit urgent cases in. Outside them, call us and go to a dedicated 24 hour emergency hospital.
  • What do I do if you are closed?

Go to a 24 hour emergency veterinary hospital. Do not wait for us to open if your pet has any of the true emergency signs above. Time matters far more than continuity of care in those situations.
  • My pet ate something they should not have. What now?

Call immediately, and have the packaging with you if there is any. Do not try to make your pet vomit unless a veterinarian or a poison control line tells you to, because with some substances that causes more damage on the way back up.
  • How fast can you see us?

It depends on the day and what is already in the building, which is exactly why calling first helps. We will be honest on the phone about whether you will be seen faster somewhere else.
  • My exotic pet or bird is unwell. Is that urgent?

Usually yes. Birds and small exotics hide illness until they are genuinely sick, so a problem that could wait a day in a dog often cannot wait in them. Call us rather than watching overnight.
  • Will I know what it costs in an emergency?

Yes. Even urgently, we tell you what we recommend and what it costs before we proceed, and we will talk through options if the number is difficult. Nobody gets a surprise invoice.

If something feels wrong, call.

We would rather talk you through it on the phone than have you wait and worry.
